Sunday Afternoon/There's always hope
Hello.
I guess I should write in here since I've "survived" my first semester in Austria. What to say? It was definitely different than my home university. (duh..isn't that the whole point of going abroad?)
It became more challenging as the exam week approached because I had no idea what to expect. Luckily I didn't have exams for all my courses because some of the course were Seminars. To explain, Seminar courses consist of group work/project, mini quizzes, presentations, etc.
It's a hard course but I personally think that the Lectures are more tough since you have to digest all the information from the beginning of the course to the end... and if you don't attend lectures or study throughout the semester, you're screwed when it comes to the exam.
I didn't do that. I attended my lectures and studied 2weeks before the exam week... But i still found the exam difficult. (T_T)
We had 90mins to take the exam.. 18 open ended questions. The grade for your class is basically 100% of what you get on the exam.
I prefer to do mini quizzes, projects rather than take one exam. Even if I study, I suck at taking tests. or maybe I just suck at studying/prepping for exams. ugh! Oh..just to throw this out there... or if you're wondering what happens if you fail an exam??.... you get 3 attempts to pass the exam. I guess that sorta gives you an idea of how hard the exams are.
That was my Fall semester. I only had 2 exams to take. I took 6 courses and took only 2 exams. HOWEVER... spring semester is going to be a nightmare!
I'm taking 9 courses! NINE!! I've never in my life taken 9 courses. You're probably wondering why I'm signed up for 9 classes. I need to meet the credit requirements back at my home university to be considered a full time student and to continue receiving Financial Aid. 12units back at my home university is equivalent to 24ECTS here. So the 9 courses I'm taking equal up to 24ECTS. aaah!!! (self reminder: don't panic..just manage your time wisely)
This is what's been in my mind for the past couple days. I can't sleep much since I'm thinkin' about it too much. But as I think more about it...I'm realizing I can do this. I just need to be positive and believe in myself.
This is in a way..a test. I can and will succeed.
To completely change the topic.. i titled this blog post sunday afternoon because I'm at Starbucks. Nothing is open on Sundays here in Vienna except for Starbucks (I'm exaggerating a bit)...
I stayed home all day Saturday cuz I had no desire to go out. It's drizzling a bit today..and I like to go to cafe's when it's raining.. :)
That's all for now. I don't think I ever wrote this in my other posts but THANK YOU for visiting my blog and reading it.
bye all.
